Once inside the forbidden Cockpit Country, their visit is anything but tranquil as they soon find themselves in the midst of a spiritual battle between good and evil.

Here’s what others are saying:

I was pleasantly surprised while reading this book. the story is about philip mcintosh, a cultural anthropologist, who is summoned from the suburbs of montego bay, Jamaica to the maroon village of accompong to investigate recent unexplained deaths. the maroon people shun modern technology and hold fast to their traditional way of living. philip descends from the maroon people and feels that this would be a perfect opportunity to show his wife and seven year old his family history and traditions. his son, drew can be described as precocious and quickly draws the attention of the elders in the village. The reader will find that this will be no routine visit as a battle between good and evil soon ensues which puts the beliefs of the elders, philip, and his family to the test. i don’t want to give away key points but i highly recommend this book to others. If you like battles that involve the supernatural, then this book is definitely for you. The storyline is smooth with well defined characters.

About the Author

Nicholas Da Silva

Nicholas Da Silva is a new media artist and musician of Brasilian-American descent. He is the founder and creative director/producer of ZOOLOOK, an independent new media agency and publishing house established in 1996 and based in San Francisco. Through ZOOLOOK, Nicholas develops intellectual properties that promote a multicultural experience.

When Nicholas is not being creative, you can find him, the adventurous snowboarder, traveling around the world, looking for the perfect snow with his family. He also enjoys sampling cuisine from around the world, reading comic books, playing soccer and watching movies that don’t suck.

From front to back of Dread & Alive, the scene is clear to the imagination. Set in Jamaica deep in the mountainous Cockpit Country of the Maroons, a young boy becomes a man. “Drew” enters the Maroon community with his parents at the young age of 7, as his father is summoned by the elders to assist with an evil force that is threatening to take power over the people.

The Elders see something special in Drew, and he is about to embark on a journey that will shape the rest of his life. A choice between good and evil, Drew will need all of his strength and spiritual prowess.

This book is for everyone of all ages who love a story about a hero! I would highly recommend Dread & Alive to all of the youth who are faced with hard decisions in their every day lives. A great reminder that we all can choose to be heroes in our own journeys.

This is GREAT work, Nicholas Da Sliva!!!!! I can’t wait for Dread & Alive volume 2!!
